A Marathon of Rain

There was pounding rain and flooded houses and streets.

The New Jeresey flood had devastating stress on many people.

Only when the water went down did families go outside.

How old were you when the flood happened?

6 or 7 years old. I wasn't that old.

How did you feel when it started?

It was a bit scary. But I was mostly sad because I couldnt play outside and there was nothing to do in my house.

Were any of your family memebers with you in the flood besides parents?

Yes all of my 9 siblings and my grandpa. 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Question: Were your parents really stressed about the flood, and why?

Yes mostly because we didnt have any running water in our house at all! That stressed me out a lot to.

Were you and your family members anything but scared, if so what were they feeling?

Well my brothers and most of my sisters were excited. Mostly because they

had nothing like the flood ever happen to them before. They just sat by the window watching the rain 24/7 it seemed like.

Was there a specific reason the flood happened and what?

Nothing except lots and lots and lots of rain.

How high did the flood get?

Hard to remember but my parents told me something about over 4 feet or something.

How long did it rain?

3 days and 2 nights....STRAIGHT!

What date did the flood happen?

August 2nd 1973. Also my sisters birthday

Was there any other experience you had during the flood?

One time my basement overflowed and my 80 year old grandpa had to take a shovel and dig a trench in our basement to keep the water from overflowing.

Were you releived when the flood was over?

Yes. For many reasons. 1 is I could go outside and play again. 2 is I didnt have to sit in the house all day. 3 is I could actually wash my hands again.

What did you do when the flood was over?

When the water level shrunk to a 2 inch we all went outside and collected golfballs. A mini golf course is right uphill from our house so when the flood came the golfballs went down the hill to our neighbor hood.

So we can say as an ending that there was high water levels very big stress on families and overflowing basements wasnt very fun. Not to mention no running water at all! Flooded days equal bad days if you ask anyone who was in that flood.
