The Disaster In '93

Today I am going to tell you about the floods of 1993. The person I interviewed is my Mom and Step-Dad. I hope you enjoy my interview.


Here are 12 most important and curious questions I wanted to know about the floods of 1993:


Question 1

What was the weather like?

Answer: sunny and hot, temperatures reached up to 95-100 everyday.

Question 2

How were you affected by the flood?

Answer: there was no electricity or running water out daily household chores.

Question 3

Did you need a lot of water?

Answer: yes, the water was off in the entire city of Des Moines.

Question 4

Were you scared if so why?

Yes, at times due to crimes.

Question 5

Where were you at?

Answer: started out at home but had to relocate to a hotel and then a shelter.

Question 6

How did you react and the people around you?

Answer: I reacted in devastation and disbelief of what had taken place. Others around me were also in disbelief.

Question 7

Were there houses that were surrounded by water?

Answer: yes, many parts of the North and South of the Des Moines area.

Question 8

Did water go through the Mississippi River and to a bunch of other states also?

Answer: Yes, it did and was not just in Iowa, it went through at least 11 states.

Question 9

Did you have to wait in long lines to get water?

Answer: Yes, the average wait in a line for water 2 1/2 hours.

Question 10

Were you prepared?

Answer: yes and no because you never realized what you needed until the flood happened.

Question 11

Were ther a bunch of people in the shelter?

Answer: Yes because they were out of their homes due to no water supply or homes under water.

Question 12

How much water was there?

Answer: Over the limited in which the levees could no longer hold.
