Off we go!! My Mom, Sophie and Libby (sisters), and I were off to go skiing.
"Are we there yet?" I ask my mom.
"Almost," she replies.
My dad is going to come in a few days to to alergie sickness that he has. He is going to stay in Denver for the night. Finally we get there after about 12 hours of endless driving. Our grandparents own a condo in the Dillon area over-looking a great big and beautiful lake and mountain. So we parked in a spot in the parking garage under all of the condos. We then moved our way up what seemed like a million steps with our bags.
"Dad?" I say.
"Yes, Molly!"
"You need to unlock the door!"
"Ok."
We open the door and unpack all the suitcases we brought. We put our clothes in the closet and the food in the pantry. I put my snow gear for skiing in the front closet so it is by the door for when we decide to go skiing. We were all tired after a long day of driving and unpacking. My Mom told us of a place just down the street she remembers going to for dinner last time she was here called Puck Ryan. We all agree that that sounds like a good place to eat a delicious dinner. We got in the car and drive down to the restaraunt. The dinner was really good. My sisters and I get into bed and fall asleep right away!
The next morning we wake up. I go down to the kitchen to have breakfast.
"What's for breakfast?" I ask my mom.
"Pancakes," she says.
After a big breakfast to keep us full for a long day, we head out to the slopes to do some skiing. I don't know how to ski so I am very nervous that I am going to fail at this new sport and I am going to get hurt. We all go into the ski school building to check out skis and a helmet. I put on a pair of skis to make sure they fit. And they do! It felt so weird to have these long things that are so different from shoes on my feet.
Our ski school leader takes us over to a really small hill to teach us the basics of skiing. We learn the "pizza" (how to stop) and the "french fri" (how to go). Our ski school group is then ready to move to the bunny hill. It has actual ski lifts......WOW!!
"You guys are really getting the hang of this," my mom says over the orange gate.
"Thank you," I reply.
Our leader lets us know that it is lunch time and that we need to head into the building. We go in and have our lunch and lemonade. We all go dump our tray and line up by the doors to go outside. Our group goes back to the bunny hill and come down twice. Before we know it our ski school day is over.
My mom meets us by the exit.
"I think you're ready for more advanced slopes," my mom says.
"I think so too," I reply.
"Want to try School marm with dad while I stay back with Libby?"
"Yeah," Sophie and I say.
We go try School Marm a three and a half mile long hill. It felt like we were flying because my sister and I didn't use poles. We just stood there and turned when we needed to turn. It was really bumpy because of the ice on the slope. I kept telling my self I am not going to fall, I am not going to fall over and over again. I enjoyed it more than stressed over it. But I was still nervous.
We make it down before you know it. My mom is standing at the end taking pictures as we reach the end.
We had a really long and fun day of skiing. My family and I got into a bus to take us to our parking lot. We nearly fell asleep in the car ride home.
"I hope to go there again really soon," I tell my parents.
"Me too!" they say.
And what do you know, I learned how to ski after one day!!
